Seafood Lover’s Dream in Pine Point, Maine

Getting around Pine Point
Welcome to Pine Point!

Getting acquainted

Just outside of Scarborough, Maine, off route 1, sits the quaint beach area of Pine Point.  Driving down Pine Point Road, you will see two spots famous for their seafood.  Bayley’s (165 Pine Point Road) and Ken’s Place Seafood Restaurant (207 Pine Point Road) are old staples to this town.  (You can even dig into some delicious ice cream served by Bayley’s, at their location at 161 Pine Point Road.)  Both Ken’s and Bayley’s offer the typical fare known around Maine.  They have fried clam strips, haddock stew, and, of course, lobster rolls.  Whether with mayonnaise or drawn butter, the bright pink sweet chunks of lobster meat are sure to please any palate and have you coming back for more.

Coming into town, the Clam Shack sits on the left side, with the Garage BBQ at the intersection of Pine Point Road and Grand Avenue.  Further into town you will find the Pine Point Beach area with Emma’s Eats (www.emmaseatspinepoint.com) on the beach side.  Order some pizza, sandwiches or dessert and head to the beach.  This area is perfect for relaxing, wind surfing, boogie boarding, and playing in the water.  You will also find a number of other seafood establishments, away from the beach, while biking, walking or driving through Pine Point.

Take your pick

On the far end of Jones Creek Drive, facing the colorful fishing boats and lobster traps, sits the Pine Point Fisherman’s Co-op (m.lobsterco-op.com).  They buy from the lobstermen and sell right to you.  Their experience in the business spans more than 40 years, so they really know what they’re doing.  Plenty of seafood options abound, as well as your pick of fine lobsters, from small to extra large, direct from a tank in front of you.  If you prefer to order online, they also have that option available.

Up from the Pine Point Fisherman’s Co-op, at 84 Jones Creek Drive, you will find two establishments owned and operated by the Bayley’s family: the Bait Shed and Bayley’s Lobster Pound.  (They also are owners of The Garage BBQ, Emma’s Eats and Dog Days Gift Shop and have been in the seafood business for more than 100 years).

The Bait Shed (www.baitshedrestaurant.com) sits at the back of the property and has an outdoor bar and dining area with ample seating on the large deck, overlooking the salt marsh.  You can catch a gorgeous sunset off this back deck area, and order drinks and every kind of seafood dish Bayley’s has to offer.

At the front of the property is Bayley’s Lobster Pound (www.bayleys.com).  You can buy fresh seafood out of the tanks outside or go indoors to their convenience store.  Take your pick from fish, lobster and crab meat, shrimp, salad, cole slaw, soups, whoopie pies and much more.

Their website highlights all of their products and also allows you to purchase online.  Sue Bayley is a fourth-generation family member who manages the Bayley’s properties with her husband, Vincent Clough.  They take pride in what the Bayley’s name continues to provide to the public.

Relaxation ahead

A short walk from Bayley’s will take you to the Salty Bay Seafood and Take-out Restaurant (68 Jones Creek Dr.)  At the front building, you can order every seafood dish imaginable.  The bar area sits to the left of the restaurant.  You can enjoy a delicious drink, play corn hole outside, or sit at a picnic table overlooking the salt marsh.  Whatever you fancy, this is a great place to spend time with family and friends.

There are plenty of spots for everybody in Pine Point.  If you love seafood, you can’t go wrong by coming to this part of Scarborough, Maine.  The locals are friendly.  The food is amazing.  And the views are breathtaking.
