New Year, New Foodie Adventures
Charlotte Magazine started off the new year by posting their list of the “50 Best Restaurants in Charlotte: 2022.” A former colleague shared the list on Facebook and put the challenge out there to hit a new restaurants each week (or thereabouts) in 2022.
I thought that this was the perfect time to get back to my “foodie” roots, while trying some amazing restaurants, reconnecting with old friends and making new ones. 2021 definitely threw all of us a serious curveball, and it was about time to feel a bit more like normal.
About the Asbury
The first stop on our foodie journey was The Asbury, located inside the Dunhill Hotel, on the corner of 6th and Tryon. There was plenty of parking available in the deck behind the hotel, for a reasonable rate of $5 for two hours of parking. I was so excited to run into my friend, her daughter and her boyfriend after I parked. It had been too many years since we had been together.
After taking a photo outside of the restaurant, to commemorate the start of our weekly event, we headed inside. This quaint restaurant was modern, with huge mirrors running down the sides of the dining room, with beautiful abstract art. It was definitely an intimate setting, with about ten tables. Our party of six settled in toward the back of the restaurant, with a clear view into the bar at the Dunhill Hotel.
The Menu
The restaurant’s modern spin on Southern fare was evident in the offerings on its dinner menu. (Note: Menu items may change regularly, but this is a good listing of what they have at the restaurant.) Deviled eggs, chicken sandwich, macaroni and cheese and braised pork chops were just a few of the scrumptious options available.
We opted for some wine from their drink menu, which had some hidden gem wineries with some amazingly yummy options for anyone. I opted for a Sauvignon Blanc from Livermore Valley (CA), and it was the best I’ve had in a long time. It was almost buttery, like a Chardonnay.
The Feast
After perusing the menu for a bit, we all came up with our own winning dinner combinations. When our orders arrived, we had a display of just about every main dish on the menu, along with some of the deviled eggs, the cheese and charcuterie plate, and the HUGE mac and cheese (which came in its own cast iron skillet!). We settled into sampling our fares, while continuing to share stories and catch up on what had been happening in our lives.
Here are some pictures of what we ordered. The spread truly was delicious and well worth the visit to this cute restaurant. They also offer breakfast and brunch, if that’s more your speed. This is a true treat for Southern fare. Be sure to check out The Asbury on your next trip to uptown Charlotte.
